Celebrating Diversity
If you look to our roots, you will discover that we are all essentially a community of immigrants – we, our parents, our grandparents, our great-grandparents all arrived here from somewhere else, in search of the special opportunities offered in Quebec and Canada.
When we merged three years ago to form Ometz, we created an integrated continuum of employment, immigration and social services. We anticipated that our immigrant clients would essentially benefit from this single point of entry and we weren’t wrong.
The 2010-2011 annual report highlights some of these clients. They are a diverse group of newcomers from more than 15 different countries. They bring talents and skills that add value to our community while enriching it with the diversity of their backgrounds. As newcomers, they face many challenges that we often read and hear about in the media. Ometz tries to help them face these challenges by offering programs that facilitate their early integration. You can share in some of their stories as you read through this report.
Celebrating diversity speaks to more than just immigrants; it also speaks to the diverse needs that Ometz is able to meet every day. Over the past year, we have responded to more than 12,000 service requests from people in our community – individuals looking for a job, students facing challenges at school, or families in need of counselling support, to name just a few. At Ometz, we welcome everyone who knocks on our door.
Please note that in order to save on resources, Ometz no longer prints its annual report.
